What is Grounding vs Meditation

I was asked the other day about grounding.. what is it? How does it differ from meditation?

And here are my thoughts:

Grounding is a practice to bring your attention to the here and now.  Through your attention and breath, just becoming present.  And literally, feeling yourself grounded in your space.  Feeling you, and only you. And generally, in my experience at least, it is a shorter time span.

It allows you to reset yourself.  To calm yourself or prepare yourself for whatever comes next or release you from whatever reaction you are having.

Meditation, on the other hand, is a practice of sitting with whatever comes along.. it may be thoughts, feelings, sensations, and noticing them and letting them go out to the universe as we come back to the breath or the mantra.  This is where we train our bodies and minds to remain calm and settled.

Both of these practices have both emotional and physical benefits as they calm the mind and bod and. reset our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) to the parasympathetic system (rest and reset).

But Meditation (also in my experience) will have a longer term effect on your system and helps reprogram your system to remain more calm and centered in your life vs just in the moment.

But try both! You will benefit from it immensely 😊
